Rio Linda has always done things its own way. Larger lots, more elbow room, a neighborly self-sufficiency that's rare in Sacramento County. Plenty of homeowners out here handle their own maintenance, know their properties well, and don't need anyone to explain the basics. What they do need, and what we're here to provide, is a contractor who respects that, levels with them straight, and does the job right the first time.
That’s the kind of relationship Fort Ross Siding & Windows has built with Rio Linda homeowners over the past 26 years. We’re not here to pressure you into upgrades you don’t need. Our job is to explain what’s really happening with your windows, what it takes to fix the problem correctly, and then deliver quality work that lasts.
If you’ve landed on this page, chances are you already know something in your home isn’t working the way it should. Let’s take a closer look at what’s going on and what your options are moving forward.
We Measure for the Home, Not the Catalog
Every rough opening in a home comes with its own exact dimensions, which is why every window we install is custom-measured and custom-ordered to fit. We don’t work with “close enough” sizing, because even a small gap or mismatch can affect how the window seals, operates, and performs over time. No matter how high-quality the product is, if it isn’t sized correctly for the opening, it simply won’t deliver the performance homeowners expect.
We Inspect What's Behind the Wall
The rough opening, the framed space where the window is installed, is often where most installation issues begin, and unfortunately, it’s also where problems can go unnoticed for years. When this area isn’t properly assessed and prepared, it can lead to air leaks, water intrusion, and long-term performance issues that aren’t immediately visible from the inside of the home. Before any new window goes in, our crew inspects for rot, moisture staining, compromised sheathing, or framing that has moved out of square. If we find a problem, we tell you. If we don't, you know the installation is going into a solid foundation.
We Flash Like It's Going to Rain Sideways
Because sometimes in Rio Linda, it does. Proper water management at the window-to-wall interface is the difference between a window that performs for 25 years and one that starts leaking behind your wall within five. We install continuous sill pan flashing, apply head flashing above each window, and lap flexible flashing tape over the nailing fin on all four sides. Every seam gets sealed. Every potential water entry point gets addressed before the exterior finish goes back on.
We Finish the Interior Cleanly
New window installation should look finished from inside your home, not like a patchwork of caulk and mismatched trim. We re-fit interior casing properly, paint or finish to match your existing trim, and leave the opening looking like the window was always there.

Real Questions, Real Answers
I've gotten quotes that are wildly different in price. What explains that?
Several factors affect the real cost of a window project: the quality of the window and glass package, whether the quote includes full interior trim and finish work, how the contractor handles rough opening inspections and potential repairs, and whether flashing and water management materials are included or treated as add-ons.
A low advertised price that leaves out those details usually isn’t a better deal, it’s simply an incomplete quote. Ask every contractor to walk you through their estimate line by line so you understand exactly what’s included, what’s excluded, and where additional costs could appear later.
My home was built in the 1960s. Are there things I should know going in?
Older homes often have non-standard window openings, which makes custom ordering especially important. Some may also contain asbestos in the materials surrounding the opening, a situation our ASB certification allows us to handle legally and safely. In addition, older framing can hide moisture damage that’s been developing for decades without any visible signs inside the home. When we find these issues, we show them to you directly and address them the right way before moving forward.
How disruptive is window installation? We have kids and dogs.
Genuinely less disruptive than most people expect. Each window takes roughly 45 to 90 minutes to install, and your home is never fully open to the outside, we work one opening at a time. We'll coordinate with you on any particular rooms or times that need special consideration.
We're on a fixed income. Is there any flexibility on timing or payment?
If the damage is limited to a few sections, repairs may be enough. If there is widespread cracking, warping, loose panels, fading, or moisture-related We understand that a full window project is a significant expense. We're happy to discuss phased approaches, addressing the most problematic windows first and scheduling remaining windows in a subsequent phase. Let's have that conversation during the consultation.
Do you take away the old windows?
Yes. Haul-away of old windows and all job-site debris is included in every project we do. We leave your property clean.
